• does more than just wake us up.
  • just make us hide under the blankets
  • just holding our loved ones till no one shivers.
  • playing music on full volume trying to drown the rain
  • sing louder trying to drown reality
  • it does more than make plants release oils that give off the pleasant smell we know as petrichor.
  • provide reasons for a snuggle
  • or fry pakodas
  • it doesn’t just give us a reason to talk
  • by attenuating TV signals
  • or play board games
  • or maybe an enthusiastic, unashamed game of antakshari
  • sometimes it gives us a reason to stay silent
  • to just listen to the voice of the rain
  • maybe even have a conversation
  • the responses hurt sometimes;
  • bring us hope though
  • of getting over it
  • of moving past one sided conversations
  • feeling incomplete watching the downpour from behind a glass
  • to become spectators of a liberal race between raindrops on windows
  • maybe buy funky gumboots
  • and jump into that well placed puddle you try to avoid usually
  • just be content with the cadenced white noise
  • speaking in silly little pillow talk
  • numbly appreciating the beauty of life
  • as it pours ‘cats and dogs’ and ‘pitchforks and hammer handles’
  • acknowledging nature and it’s uncountable shades of grey that paint the gloomy overcast skies.
